ASSESSMENT NOTES

LECTURE/DISCUSSION

By the end of this day's continuation of lecture/discussion on the elements of art, the students were expected to be able to identify and describe shape as another element of art. They were also expected to be able to explain how shapes are formed, i.e., when lines meet. (Line was the first element of art they learned in previous meeting.)

DRAWING EXERCISE

The students were instructed to imagine that they were under the sea. Combining the elements of lines and shapes, the students were then told to draw 'what they see under the sea.'

Still intended to draw the students 'out of their shell,' the exercise provided a familiar channel for self-expression and creativity.

In this exercise the students were expected to be able to use two elements of art that they had learned so far – lines and shapes – to draw an imaginary underwater scenery. Similar to a previous exercise (see First Drawing), they were given 40-45 minutes to complete the task. They were also asked to pass around and share their finished works with their classmates.
