In Memoriam
October 7, 2011Steve Jobs, the genius behind many of today's most innovative technological products, died on Wednsday, October 5, 2011. He was 56.
Steve and I were born in the same year. That was the only similarity we had. He introduced the first Macintosh line of computers in 1984. I got introduced to the Mac six years later.

The computer shown above was similar to the first computer I used back in 1990 when I joined an international consulting firm. Prior to that time, I had no knowledge nor experience about any type of computer.
I was new in the company. The employee I replaced (who resigned but was supposed to stay for a few days to turn over the records and train me on the job) didn't show up as soon as I started reporting for work. So I was on my own from day one. I turned the computer power on. After being shown how to use the mouse, I started clicking, double-clicking and dragging files around, and at the end of the day I felt I knew how to use the machine.
I then spent a week reading the user manual for the Peachtree accounting software, played around with the records saved on a floppy disc, and experimented with the then Excel program (all in black and white), and soon I was recording the day-to-day transactions of the company that just hired me.
It was love at first sight. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mac's simple and highly intuitive graphical user interface. When the time came that I could afford to buy and own my first computer, it was the Macintosh Color Classic, similar to this one.

There was no turning back for me since then. In my current profession at the College, I use the MacBook Pro extensively in preparing lessons and delivering instruction.
I am sharing this information in memory of, and as a tribute to, Steve Jobs, the mastermind behind Apple's iPhone, iPad, iPod, iMac and iTunes, and whose passing made the world truly iSad.

Cartoon Strip
Here's a strip cartoon I drew in 1988. It was published in a major Philippine broadsheet in the same year. A translation in English is provided below.TRANSLATION: (A) Jackson! Why didn't you come yesterday? I waited here for you for one hour! (b) Why? What time did you arrive here yesterday? |

Ten o'clock in the morning! (B) And what time did we agree to meet here? |

Eight o'clock! (B) Exactly! No wonder we didn't meet here yesteday! |

Christmas Program Presentation by the Business Administation Division
Miss Marian Medalla surprised and delighted fellow faculty, officers and staff of the college with her singing and acting prowess in this duet rendition (with me!) of the song 'Don't Cry Joni' during the COMFSM 2008 Christmas Program presentation at the FSM-China Friendship Sports Center last December 12, 2008.
